| Networking to produce MS project online |

Similar to issues about privacy and security over the internet, there has also been a lot of talk on how Microsoft Project has become one of the most commonly used programs of online businesses. From the time that it has been introduced over two decades ago, many project managers have preferred it as a tool to develop and manage plans as well as analyze workloads. MS Project enables users to create budgets that are based on assignment work and on resource rates. As the resources are assigned to the different tasks and as the assignment work is estimated, the program computes the cost which is equivalent to the product of the work and rate and rolls up to task levels then to summary tasks and then finally to the project level. The resource definitions which would include people, materials and equipment could be shared between different projects through a shared resource pool. Each of the resources could have their own calendars, which define which days and shifts a particular resource is available. The resource rates are used in calculating resource assignment costs that are rolled up and then summarized at the resource level. The resources could be assigned to a number of tasks in multiple plans. Each of the tasks can then be assigned to multiple resources. The application schedules task work depending on the resource availability which are defined in resource calendars. All of the resources could be defined in a resource pool which is enterprise-wide. These capabilities and features of Microsoft Project were later on enhanced when the Microsoft Office Project Server and the Microsoft Project Web Access were developed. With Microsoft Project Server, the data from Microsoft Project are stored in a central database which is SQL-based. This allows users to have the ability of displaying and updating the data over the web. Through using Microsoft Office Web Access, authorized users could access the Project Server database over the internet, including administrative tools, timesheets and analysis of the resource workloads. Today, many companies make use of networking to produce their MS Project server seminar online. Provided that they have a good firewall and security system set up, they are able to make their MS Project databases available over the internet. |
